Well, that depends on the context of how the word is used. For our purposes here, I am referring to an author of fiction, you know, like me!
I weave both facts and fiction together to draw a reader in by engaging and entertaining them with a tale that is often far more exciting than the world they live in. If done correctly, I create a series of events with believable characters that leads the reader on a journey filled with thrills, mysteries, and intrigue in such a manner that they keep turning page after page as they can't put the book down...and in the end, if I'm really good at my craft, they should have experienced enough emotions to think about events and people in their own life and how they interact with both.
Read the reviews for Behind the Hedgerows on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and Goodreads and I think you'll find, I did a pretty good job!
