Student films...

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

Student films are a great way for an actor to improve their handling of lines, timing with other actors, taking direction, and learning their craft right there alongside aspiring directors and students of film. At the beginning of my career, I tried to make at least one student film a year and the experiences were wonderful. Maybe it’s the ex-educator in me, but besides helping myself grow as a professional actor, it allowed me to help students and give back to the industry. One film in particular that stands out was Locust Lane (Manoli Despines/Syracuse VPA) where I was cast as Mr. Dunham. An official selection in the 2020 Pittsburgh International Film Festival, an official selection in the 2019 Shortie Film Festival, and an official selection in the 2019 Take It Easy Festival while being nominated for Best Dramedy, it also earned me an IMDb credit.

Manoli and I remain friends to this day and I am happy to report that is he is pursuing his passion, working out in Los Angeles. Like many other students who are experiencing success, I can’t wait to see where he ends up in his professional career.
